Snapshots of Success

Class of 2002
“His experience at Chabot shaped his desire to pursue a career where he could give back to the community.”
Brandon grew up in Hayward and Castro Valley and attended Chabot College from 2001-2002 while working full-time at Southland Mall. Chabot’s affordability and student-friendly environment made it possible to take classes.
His favorite memories of Chabot College were meeting up with his friends, his support system, in the cafeteria for lunch. His favorite class was Judo, where an engaging instructor made learning memorable. One factor that allowed Brandon to continue his classes was the shower facility. After Judo class, he could take a shower before heading to work, making it easier to balance school and employment. His experience at Chabot shaped his desire to pursue a career where he could give back to the community.
Brandon later transferred to CSU East Bay to study political science after connecting with a financial aid staff member familiar with Chabot. Today, as a hiring manager who frequently hires college students, Brandon’s advice for current students is to communicate frequently with your boss about upcoming exams when you may need support around managing your work schedule. There are many supervisors who are supportive in helping students achieve their goals.
